Question:
This has me stumped.
I have a digibox connected by scart to a TV (one scart). Then the VCR is connected by scart to the digibox. There is UHF cables going from the digibox to the VCR to the TV. Aerial is connected to digibox aerial in.
The TV packed in and got another. It also has only one scart. I connected the same cables to it.
I can view analogue and digital fine but when I play a tape I get the TV audio in the background.
When I used to put the VCR on AV (with opld TV) I got a blue screen with no audio. This was when the digibox was off. When I put the digibox on then I got the digital signal to the VCR (for recording).
However, even when the digibox is off I get the TV on AV. I then realised it was the TV analogue stations sending the singal to the AV channel. If I put on BBC1 using the TV remote then I get BBC1 when playing a tape. If i put it on a untuned channel like 8 or 9 I get hiss in the bakground.
I have tried different and moved cables around but cannot get rid of it. I even removed the UHF cables from the VCR and still got a channel on AV. I left the aerial on the digibox and put the UHF out to the TV.
Does that make sense? Any help will be appreciated.
To start, take the aerial out of the digibox, its not required if you are viewing SKY via Scart.
By swapping ends on the Scart lead, you can check to see if you have 1 way or 2 way Scarts. Some vcr's also have Scart sockets that are not both ways,or one may be,while the other is not.
If the worst come to the worst, take the aerial out of the system completely. As you have SKY you can get everything you need on it(unless you are desperate for your BBC local news,or ITV teletext). With the aerial gone there would be no analogue reception to interfere.
VCR and digibox is a very basic set up,so the problem has to be with the configuration of the connecting leads.Trial and error.
I have sorted it out this morning.
BTW it a freeview and not Sky box, but that doesn't matter.
When the aerial was disconnected there was hiss coming out of the TV speakers (no picture or audio of course).
I found out the problem was the digibox to TV scart lead. All my newish scarts are 2 way but I found a old 1 way scart. I put it between the digibox and the TV. I now get a blue screen on the AV channel when the digibox is off.
The signal from the TV cannot get through to the VCR.
:)
Probably not the best way to sort it, but it will do. Definitely a strange problem, and one I haven't seen before.
