TV Recommendations?
Question:

I need to get a W/S TV for my room and need some help/opinions. A good friend of my showed me this (www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/862-panasonic-tx24dx1-crt-widescreen-tv.html) TV and it looks good but wonder if there are any other (better) deals? I have a budget of £250-£300, looking at a 24'/28' TV, must look good and would like a Toshiba if possible as it'll go with my new Toshiba DVD player. :D

Dunno if sharp tvs are still the same but they got loads of bad press over at avforums at one time ....

Philips 50hz tv's generally have a pretty good reputation. I wouldn't bother considering the Sharp tv when there are 28" sets from the likes of Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic and Philips in the sub £350 bracket.
If you could stretch your budget up to about £400, the Sony KV28LS36 is possibly the best 50hz tv available. There is also a 24" version (KV24LS35).

Well I speak as someone who has gone through a heap of 28" Widescreen sets and I can tell you that despite it's reputation the Sharp 28" set is one of the best WS sets I've owned. It had a great picture, decent speakers, and was better suited to dealing with Letterboxed transfers than any of the other sets I've owned.
On the downside the remote is a bit crap but hey.......
In contrast the Philips286006 is in my experience a bad choice.
It has an extremely grainy picture which is rumoured to be caused by using a cheap Samsung tube and dvds never really looked digital as a result - plus I owned 2 6006 sets and they both had major tilting issues.
The Panasonic TX28DK1 is ok but in my experience suffers from a vertical blooming effect during highly bright images and the 50hz flicker seemed to be more noticeable than other major brands of TV sets.
In all honesty, all TV sets are crap but as far as sub £400 sets are concerned the Sharp is one of the better ones, even if it's reputation suggests otherwise.

Check out tesco.com . They have a 28" Toshiba widescreen set (28W23B) for £299.99 inc delivery. Looks like a good buy.
