Question:
I would like to connect this unit to an RGB scart socket, so I need an adapter cable as there is no RGB Scart out on this box. However, I'm not sure what will give the best quality output, either S-Video > Scart or Component > Scart.
I know Component output should give the best picture quality, but there is no component input on my TV.. Will a Component > Scart converter cable do the job, or would an S-Vid > Scart be better ??
Thanks,
Paul
I'd have thought that component to scart would be the best route, rather than S video to scart. Taking the former you are using a superior signal as the output, and routing into a not too inferior substitute in scart.
S video is not as good as a first point output signal - you'll already have lost some of the quality
have a look at hificables.co.uk, they maybe able to help you with the right connector too.

Thanks !
Ok, so next question ! Will the RGB Scart socket on the back of my Sony Wega tv accept the component input. I was thinking of getting one of the following cables, but don't want to spend the cash if it isn't going to work...
http://www.prcdirect.co.uk/PRC/PRC.filereader?3f09779a0a6c090a273fd43a3b580620+EN/products/PGV372
I've read something about the component output being YUV rather than RGB and I'm concerned that the tv won't handle the input.... HELP !!
Thanks again,
Paul
Its truly bonkers that you don't get a SCART socket on the Sony DAV machines.
not sure on that one, though in theory it should work - I'd get a better opinion than mine on that one.
AFAIK Sony TV's don't accept component via SCART - in fact all TV's with component in that I've seen have the three separate cable inputs.
I think that S-Video will be as good as you'll get with your current kit (and S-Video can be very good).
Don't think this'll work.
It's what put me off buying one. No RGB at all:(
Just to update this, I got an official response back from Sony :
"Unfortunately you will not be able to receive a component signal using a component to scart lead. This is because none of the scart sockets on our televisions will accept a component input. There are one or two of our plasma screen televisions that will accept component inputs, but these are in the form of component inputs rather than a scart socket."
So there you go.. no, it won't work.....well thats just PLOP then !
Paul
Unless your SCART input will accept S-Vid as well as RGB (not always the case...), the best quality you can get through it with the DAV player will be composite.... :( :gag:
I would expect a Sony WEGA set to have a S-Video enabled Scart.

True, although on one of my sets the SCART only supports RGB... :(
