Question:
My mum is having a problem with her TV.
The scart socket seems to be playing up. She has a digibox on the socket and now the picture and sound keeps going. If I move the lead about (like pushing it up) I can get the picture and sound back but when I let go of the lead i just get a black screen.
I have tried four scart leads and they are all the same. I can also put pressure on the end of the lead and push it in and the picture comes back and then goes when I let go. The lead seems to be in the socket ok.
Can the back of a TV warp? The socket looks like it is inside the TV a couple of mm too far. I am wondering if the plastic back is pulling the lead out a bit.
Any ideas?
Could be a dry joint or other defect in the socket on the TV or nearby wiring.
Or it could, as you say, be that the socket has become physically loose from the back panel of the TV and is retracting slightly inside the set - which means that the plug cannot seat properly.
Methinks a philips screwdriver may be needed.... (turn the TV off and leave it off for 30 minutes before you take the back off, or you could be struck by lightning).
I don't like the idea of taking the back off.
What I thought off was to modify the end of the scart lead so there is less plastic around the metal end. I think the cable could be pushed in a bit more without the plastic back getting in the way.
Its an old cable anyway and thought is may be worth trying.
It would be best to get it fixed properly, as the problem will only get worse over time.
Ok, a bit of development.
I put the aerial straight into the back of the TV (it was in a video). There is also no picture but sound is ok like the scart socket. If I wiggle the aerial I can get the picture back and then it goes off again.
Is the CRT tube screwed?
