Trying to locate small satellite speakers
Question:

I am trying to find a stockist of small satellite type speakers to complete a home theatre system. i would like to buy a separate amp and use the small speakers as a temporary measure. i would keep the amp and upgrade the speakers when space became available. size wise they should be comparable with the small speakers provide by large manufacturers eg sony, toshiba, yamaha. u know the type . really small and unobtrusive. i would buy a separate sub.
oh, and a good price would not go amiss!( a very good price) to keep the missus happy.
if i were to contact some large manufacturers would i be able to buy these speakers from their spares department or thru a dealer??. has anyone followed this route?
all replies appreciated as usual.
cheers

The difficulty you will have is that most small speakers speakers are not full range - i.e. more bass than normal is routed through the sub. Setting the speakers to 'small' on the amp won't be anough as they will still be getting frequencies out of their range.
That is the case with my Aego2 set up. They have to be connected to the dedicated sub, they can't be connected straight to the amp.
If your amp has a sub crossover setting that can be set high enough then you might get away with it.

How small is small? If you're looking for something smaller than KEF eggs then you're really looking at either the Aego or Bose. As far as I am aware, both these systems have to be connected through the sub.
I have a Boston sat/sub package looking for a new home if you're interested. They're small, but not as small as the Aegos.

Not quite as small as Bose - similar to Kef Eggs (but a more traditional shape) - Energy Take 5.2 . Available in gloss black, gloss white and a nice maple/silver finish. One of the best sounding small speakers - way ahead of the KEF's IMO - but you will need a sub, and I don't recommend the accompanying Energy item. On a budget, look at the REL Quake.
