TV on screen menus
Question:

I know that this is a bit picky, and I'm not that bothererd really, but I was just wondering why the onscreen menus you get on tvs are so graphically poor?
I mean, they are pretty much, if not exactly, teletext quality.
You would think that with the amount of technology you can get these days, the onscreen menus could be a bit more "snazzy".
OR, would that need some special device inside it to generate it and therefore bump up the price too much?

Answers:

Depends on the TV. Those on my new Samsung LCD job are about the same as DVB teletext.
But to answer your question - I guess, because they really don't need to be any better. After all, you don't buy a TV so you can show it's fancy menus off to your mates - do you?

Answers:

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's like the have called in the designers of LEGO to put together the on-screen graphics.
Come to that, the whole TV type of thing is back in the stone age.
I recall years ago, we had picture in picture so you could see one channel whilst watching another. what happened to that. It was supposed to come to all sets......
Also just things like changing channels could be done oh so nicely.
How about a very quick smooth fade to black and re fade up to the next channel, only about half a second, but it could be oh so polished.
I guess it's just cos things are cut to the bone price wise.
