TV/DVD What to do?
Question:

Ok i`ve been looking to get my folks a dvd player, with 5.1 speakers, so they can get surround sound. not i know they wont be watching dvd`s too often, the main and simplest way i thought to improve the sound quality they have, especially when my dads watching sport would be to get a dvd player and attach some surround speakers to it.
now if i do this, would the sound coming from the tv somehow be sent through the dvd player and then out the speakers?i mean, say he`s watching sport on sky, would i be able to connect the dvd player and sky box as well as the vcr together so they can have all sound set out throught he speakers, instead or in conjunction with the existing tv speakers.currently the etup is run through the vcr, the sky box is conencted via scart to the vcr then the vcr is conencted via scart to the tv.
thanks

Answers:

AFAIK, DVD players have audio ouput only, therefore you could not route audio from TV VCR or Sky through the DVD player (it would have to have audio input to do that). Not only that, I don't think a bog standard Sky box outputs surround sound (if by surround you mean Dolby digital). You'd need Sky+ for that. The only other way to improve the sound from sporting fixtures would be to have a TV from one of the top name brands that incorporate "Pseudo" surround sound and which have facilities to change the "sound stage" to Concert, Stadium or something like that.
