Sony DAV-S550 - any good?
Question:

This is my first post here for a looong time. Anyone remember me??
I am (or was) thinking of buying a Sony DAV-S550 but have just been talked out of it by the salesman at Richer Sounds.
He said that it sounds tinny and the subwoofer isn't up to the job.
Has anyone experienced these systems, and are they any good?
I've currently got a Panasonic SCHT-70 and want to upgrade so that I have DTS and can also play VCD's. And I also want something that isn't as big as a house.
Does anyone know how the two systems compare?
Thanks

Got a DAVS500, and the sub can almost shake the pictures off the wall!!! Would assume the 550 is the same or better, so for what it is ie an all in one, and not separates, it does the job:)

DAVS550 is a nice peice of kit for the price the sound is great and sub levels can be adjusted, it's great for home cinema but lacks a bit on the music side but i personally love it.

I have been thinking of buying this as well.
Found it for about £330 at www.tehctronics.com (multiregional as well!) Not sent the order through yet though!!
Anybody else found it cheaper?

The fact it hasn't got any SCART sockets, let alone the lack of RGB - would put me off straight away.. :gag:
Oh, and Techtronics..? :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag:

Lack of Scart don't seem to be a problem here, picture is great!
Don't know why I keep hearing that the sub isn't powerful enough, my wife keeps turning it down :oh-hum:
As for techtronics, :gag: , you could try Hotkit (http://www.hotkit.co.uk) which is a trade name of ENL in Nottingham. Not as cheap as you've found but certainly a more reputable company IMHO, thats where I got mine from.

Thanks for the constructive comment over techtronic, I'll steer clear. (New to all this buying over the internet business)

Yep, shoud've pointed that out. Only prob with the s-vid is my telly has the socket on the side, a wee bit unsightly :(
Agree about composite :gag:

Hey Guys
I see that Makro is going to be selling the Davs 400 for £199 plus Vat from Wednesday...what was puting me off was the lack of Scart for using RGB
I was wondering if you got a s-video to scart lead for the sony and now I guess u can !! Does it give you the full benefit of RGB by going that route or does it lose anything ??
cheers

Doesn't give you RGB, but the s-video picture is nothing to be scoffed at.
