Question:
I've had it for two and use and its been fantastic. But i have two questions.
1.My dvd player is connected to my DTS/Dolby digital amp via co-axel and was wondering weather the dvd player should be set to MPEG or PCM.
2. Is there any way with the dvd player to tell what bitrate a dvd is playing at.
Any help wound be nice.
1. PCM if your decoder doesn't have an MPEG decoder. MPEG of it does. Not much use anyway as only a few early discs have MPEG audio.
2. Older Sony players could display bitrate, layer and bitrate history using the Display button, don't know if the NS300 has this.
Ok, thanks for help mate. PCM it is then.
another thing. I use my dvd player as my cd player aswell. I'am using co-axel cable to send the sound to amp i was wondering weather i should plug two phono leads into the dvd player and then plug them into the cd inputs on my reciever? or should i just use the co-axel like i have done for ages?

That's a tricky one. I have had my Sony NS900 player connected optically to my Sony DB930 amp. I have been using as a CD player as well. I then tried the analogue ouput and it sounded better as I was using the DAC (digital audio converter) in the player rather than the amp. The DAC's in the player are very good.
I have both connected and listen digitally for DVD's and analogue for CD's.
I did notice that with digital the sound was a few decibels louder than analogue.
It's a try and see if you like it situation. You may find the DAC's are better in the amp so keep using the co-axial connection as your are.
ok Thanks mate, i'll try an analogue conection and see if i like it.
