Help re TV and DVD
Question:

I recently bought a new tv 32" widescreen, flat, 100hertz, Sony Wega Triniton, I currently use a Cyberhome DVD.
I am quite new to this and have only recently started buying DVDs but am getting confused. There are various functions on my TV, Smart, Widescreen, 4:3, zoom etc and I understand that there are various "types" of DVD, fullscreen, widescreen, anamorphic etc. I also understand that TV is broadcast in different ways, in addition my telewest cable broadcast is zoomed in and has part of the screen missing.
My question is that as a newbie how can I find out what these things mean and how do I make sure that I am getting the best out of my kit dependant on what I am watching?
Many thanks for anyone who can help

Yo mate i have a 28inch sony tv so i might be able to help.
Are you asking what modes to switch the tv to, so that you get the best out of watching tv and dvds ??
Well for normall TV you should watch in 4:3
If you have a analouge telewest box then when you watch tv shows like easternders you should watch in 14:9
If you have a digital box you should watch shows like eastenders in wide (i have to tell by NTL box to out put in 16:9 mode other wise it's a pan scan picture)
Anamorphic widescreen dvds should be watched in wide mode and non anamorphic widescreen dvds should be watched in zoom or smart depending on the picture result.
Fullscreen dvds should be watched in 4:3 mode
watchin widescreen movies of tv are the same as dvds between wide, smart and zoom you should be able to watch things fine
Hope that was what you are after
edit there's a function in the menu under manuel set-up or further manuel set-up that lets you switch on or off auto-switching which is were the tv decides for you which mode it should be on for that programme

Make sure also that your DVD player is set to output pure 16:9 not 4:3 or 4:3PS (pan and scan)

Hmm im gonna need more info.
What show gets cut off ??
My NTL box (which should be similar to you're telewest) has three settings.
Mine is found by pressing the browse button then blue twice (under other or further settings)
A 4:3
B4:3 letterboxed and
C16:9
A is for people with pan scan teles who want to watch stuff in pan scan.
B is for people with pan scan teles who still want to see shows/movies in widescreen
C is for me and you (people with widescreen tele)
So all i can think of is find a setting in the telewest box and switch it so that it thinks you have a weidescreen tele,
Maybe that will help
