tv stand / entertainment unit
Question:

anyone know where i can get a decent tv stand for my 28" widescreen?
i've tried argos, ikea and most successfully index (which i'll probably go for)
but was hoping to maybe find some other avenues to try before i buy...
i'm after something of a decent height (ie not a low stand - i dont wanna be looking down at my TV - i like looking directly at it or up at it like in the cinema!) with 3 shelves and maybe room for my digitheatre subwoofer...
anyone got any good buys?
(sale bargains would be fantastic!)
cheers!

What about the Chrome 4 Tier Stand from Argos (Cat.No. 875/1337). It is in the Entertainment Units section of the site.
Its on sale at £29.99 and has 4 adjustable shelves (you can just use 3 and have space on the bottom for the sub).
What you have to be careful of is that it might start rattling when you play movies or music though as this is the case with some cheaper metal shelving :|

cheers for that... i think i saw it already and worried about the rattling!
i kinda just want something simple and wooden (pref with sides and a back so i can hide all the wires!)
its so hard to find something really simple that works in the way i assume most of us want!
happy new year!

I bought a Soundstyle W310 unit - solid Beech and superbly made.
£320 mind.....

Problem with backs:
Tiny little holes for putting the wires through. My parents bought an expensive hi-fi cabinet and found the hole at the back was too small for the fixed plug on the hi-fi to go through (so either ruin the cabinet by making the hole bigger, or you have to sever the power cable and attach a new plug)
My Yamaha amp, with loads of connectors in the back, pushes slightly against the back of my Sony TV Cabinet, so depending on the size of your AV equipment and the connectors, they may not fit or be a really tight squeeze sometimes.
Perhaps better getting something with an open back and using cable tidies of some of these things designed to hide wiring.

good advice
but
i'm not spending more than £40 on the unit and dont mind doing a little DIY on the back if need be... makes sense though... cable tidies? where for art they?

£40 - make sure it's good and strong - it'll be a fair old weight you're putting on it.

Answers:

any of the £40 units i've seen are much better than the terrible cheap stand i got with the TV... so if that can hold the weight i'm sure they can!
i'll be careful though - thanks!

Just bought one of the index 32 inch stands for a 28 inch TV. Fits perfectly and is pretty solid with plenty of shelf space (and has an open back for ease of wiring).
Comet also sell several models although are a little bit pricey - £50 for a very flimsy looking MDF thing, £99 for one with a glass shelf and £199 for the only good one they sell (and only the 199 one looks strong and wide enough to happily house a 28 inch).
I'd recommend Index one (whether it'll fall apart within six months time remains to be seen).

Answers:

which index stand was it and how much did you get it for?

Go to tv/ tv accesories and they have an online catalogue of them to check out.

The one I've gone for was catalogue number 610-583 in grey. (it's under TV/Video/DVD accessories).
It fits my Panasonic widescreen 28 inch TV perfectly. Although I doubt you'd get the Subwoofer on it (mines sat behind it), I was able to fit a video, Sky box and Pioneer DCS303 with centre speaker on it's shelves.
