Did you buy one after? what did you think of it?

Have you not read the bargain forum today? Rizel

Answers:

Yes, that's why I asked....to see what its like.

Answers:

I had the Naiko N2081 from safeway which is identical apart from the inbuilt decoder.
Plays just about everything including (i have tested all these formats myself):
DVD region 1
DVD region 2
DVD region 0
DVD-r single movies
DVD-r multi-movies
MP3 on CDR
MP3 on CDRW
VCD
SVCD
Kodak picture CDs
Jpegs burnt to CDR or CDRW
Picture quality is good -detailed with no pixellation (this is the third DVD player i have owned -so i have others to compare with). The picture is a little bright , so on some DVDs the black isn't completely black (but this is really nit picking).
It outputs RGB , can output NTSC as PAL50 if you wish (or NTSC as NTSC). It sends the widecreen switching signal for anamorphic DVDs. Menu for both MP3 play and JPEGS/photo CDs is good.
They are a brilliant buy..
But truly a steal with the 5:1 speaker set for £83.55 as i posted in the bargain forum. It should be the Umax 2100 on the thread as that is the manufacturers code quote on the ebuyer page , not the DVD 6400 as in the picture.
The downsides are ...
Its a budget player ,so the odd dodgy one slips through. The first one i bought had a dodgy drive unit (it skipped on one - only one - of my DVDs that played fine on my other players). I had it replaced and the second one was fine. Several friends (4 in total)bought this player too, and theirs have been OK.
I generally advise to buy budget players locally and not online (because its more involved to get the player swapped if you get a faulty one). But the price at ebuyer is so good it would be mad to miss it.

Simes, what's the menu like for the MP3 playback? Does it show the file name or the ID tag?

Answers:

It shows filenames and not ID3 tags .
It only shows the first 11 characters of the filename though. Most DVD players show only 8 or 11 characters. Those that display more usually don't preserve folder structure - they just list shows folders. So if you burn in logical album name\ track name format you would get a list of albums displayed (on left hand side of screen). Selecting one album then brings up the list of tracks on it(on the right hand side of the tv screen). It has options for shuffle and repeat play. Each folder is sorted into alphabetical order (as most DVD players do). So have track numbers before the trackname to preserve the album track order.

Cheers for that. It sounds like a similar menu setup to my old Scan DVD player.
I was going to pick one of these up but the stupid ebuyer site won't let me register because I don't have a postcode!

You Mentioned buying the player locally rather than on the net.
Do you know any store that stock this player as I find it strange that the reviews say its so good and yourself, but all the peeps that have bought them of ebuyer have ones that pop.

I concur with Simes.
Got the Safeway Naiko player for my father for christmas.
I was that impressed, I got one myself for the bedroom.
Not sure if they have any left now......:)

I bought mine from Safeway for £59.99. It was branded as a Naiko but is identcal to the Umax/Yamada 2100 apart from not having the inbuilt dolby digital decoder..
It seems that the players from ebuyer have a fault on the inbuilt decoder causing popping through the speakers. The reviewers and most other owners will not have tried the inbuilt decoder. The problems have only come to light because the speaker pack in the ebuyer deal connects to the inbuilt decoder's phono sockets on the player.
I use my Naiko with a Digitheatre (this has its own dolby digital decoder - connected to the digital output phono on the Naiko) and the sound is excellent (no pops or cracks).
If you could find a local Safeway with any of the Naiko players left it would be a bargain.
