Question:
I bought an Acoustic Solns from Richer, at 90 quid a few days ago. I have had no problems with it so far. It even plays VCD's burnt with Nero (which was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place).
Ive also been testing LOTR SE DVD on it with no problems (only a slight broken line on subtitles about 3 times throughout the whole 2 DISC movie).
However, I now read that the Tosh SD220 has come down in price...Would anyone recommend that I go swap it for this player instead? Im not overly bothered about the highest picture definition right now, as I find its good enough on the Acoustic Solutions player and my 28" TV. In any case I plan to make use of the 3 year Richer warranty to part ex the player for something better when I have the full home cinema kit.
My question is, is it worth risking swapping the multi region Acoustic Solutions player, with a R2 Tosh SD220 (which may or may not convert to multi region with the s/w hack as some have reported on these forums elsewhere). Bear in mind that playing Nero-burnt VCDs is highly important :|
Well the Tosh is obviously a better player (in terms of picture and build quality).
The Tosh plays VCD and SVCD but it is reported to have lip synch problems on SVCDs (you bring it back in synch by cycling through the audio tracks). Then there is the risk that the firmware does not make it multiregion..
I guess it depends how happy you are with the Acoustic Solutions (and if R.S actually have any 220E's in stock).

Yes i was aware of these problems. I guess seeing as the Acoustic is fit for the purpose which i bought it for (VCD playback) it will do for the moment :)
