Sony HT-BE1 Speaker/Amp Package - anyone got one
Question:

I have a Pioneer DV 454 and am considering a surround sound amp/speakers package.
I have only got about £200-£250 to spend and have to consider my wifes choice in speakers ( I've got "big ugly black things" ringing in my ears).
With all this in mind I am considering the Sony HT-BE1 silver amp/subwoofer and satellite speaker package at just over £200.
Anybody's thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:

1 set of phono inputs.
I DVD input.
1 USB input.
May look good and be a decent performer but doesn't allow anywhere near enough input options.

My brother just got one of these, also due to female intervention.
It sounds... okay. nothing special. It's quite dynamic, but there's just no ignoring the total lack of midrange from the lickle sats and the subwoofer.
If you've no basis for comparison, it'll blow you away, but then I literally took a dvd out from my Nad/Eltax system and went to my brothers and was a little underwhelmed.
Also, the speaker cable lengths are nowhere near long enough for a serious install, I think it's only 3 metres for the rears and 1 for the fronts.
It does support DPL2 though, although I haven't sampled that yet.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
I am also now considering the Sony HTSL5 package which seems to have a bit more power, a seperate amp but still with wife friendly silver speakers.
Empire direct have it for £246 which is just within my budget.
Anybody any opinions or experience of the HTSL5 ?

Answers:

Does anyone know if DPL2 sounds majorly different to DPL? I too any thinking of getting the HTSL5, but haven't heard it.

Bought the HTSL5 & the matching Sony DVD player for £349 multi region from the Sony Centre a few weeks ago. Very impressed so far. It can go very VERY loud so keep the sub volume fairly low. DPL2 is very very impressive (sometimes) other times it seems very close to DPL1. Music mode works very well for CD's as well.

Thanks Leedebs,
Did you have a DVD player before you got the Sony because I am trying to decide whether to get the DVD player as well. I currently have a LG 3200
