Question:
Just had my new TV delivered (32" at last!) I took out the two scarts from the old TV & put them in the same two places on the new TV (both are Panasonics) but when I ran the Auto Tuning it found nothing (likewise when I tired manual tuning)
I dont have an aerial just Sky Digital & NTL Cable (both with STB's)
but I could only get Sky to tune in by hooking up a coaxial lead from the Sky STB to the TV - why is that ?
Also now I cant get my video tuned in either ?
My DVD player hooked up to the RGB scart works perfectly btw
If anyone can point me in the direction of a site for nincompoops like me I'd be very grateful ... Paul ;)
You can't tune in a scart connection like you can arial signals, you have to select the scart channels. Usually they are listed as AUX,or AV something to that effect on the remote.
EDIT: the reason why the dvd works, if i recall correctly, is that is sends out a signal on the scart to overtake the normal TV and select the appropriate AV channel. Maybe you should put the cable/sky box in that scart and then use the DVD player in the second scart connector.
Hopefully then the cable box will send out this signal to switch to the cable when you switch the TV on.
Unfortunately you would have to select the correct AV channel to watch a DVD, and it may not be an RGB scart connection on the TV so it may not be as good quality. (some TV's only have one port as RGB, the first one)
I may be talking out of my ass though
Jowser - thanks for that it sorrt of makes sense
Having tuned the TV with a coaxial as described can I now get rid of it and access the channels just on scart ? I'm sure when I took out the coax from the STB to the TV I got nowt ?
TIA - Paul
You can access the STB box through the scart and it would be beneficial to as it would give far superior picture quality to coaxial connection.
When you remove the STB arial connection to the TV you will see the picture disappear if you are on a normal TV channel as it will no longer have that signal to tune in to.
I'm sure other people here can describe it better than i can, but for some reason no one else is posting.
All i can really say is that i have my Sky+ box plugged into my RGB Scart port on my TV. I have set the Sky+ to RGB and set Scart Control on. This means that when i switch the TV on, the TV automatically switches to the SKy+ box.
Like you, i don't have normal terrestrial channels tuned in as i no longer need them.
Again, sorry if i am not describing this very well, it isn't a strong point of mine. I hope other people can either agree or disagree with me and post their more eloquent answers.
sorry about latching onto this thread, but it looked a likely source of info :)
heres the prob
i have just got sky, pulled out my itv digital box (swiftly drop kicking it into the bin)
the engineer plugged it all in, cables going where they should be going, i double checked by the book-manual
works the same as my dvd by over running all channels when i switch on, via scart and ext sockets (not the problem)
but when i tried to tune my video into the channel (7 to be precise) the picture is badly out of wack, big waves of vague image accompanied by sound playing okay.
the problem is, how am i going to record from sky if all i can get through tuning is nothing worth taping, however i have a nice clear picture through ext 1 or ext 2, switching between one and the other makes no diffrence
if i switch the video to au i get a nice tape of black screen :(
my tv is a philips "something" line 28 inch w screen, but my vid is an oldish alba (with itv digital i did not have the problem)
any suggestion on what the problem could be and how to fix it would be greately appreciated

inthedark - If I'm understanding you correctly, I think you may have to try setting your video to its AV or Ext channel rather than channel 7. This was certainly my problem when I replaced my ntl analogue cable box with a Sky digital box. Is your vhs connected to your sky box via scart?
lets see
ariel to digibox
scart from digibox to tv
scart from video to digibox
erm another cable from video to digibox
cable from video to ariel socket on tv
i cannot seem to get my video to find the ext sockets as a source to tape from, i have tried th av button but i only get a black screen
tried tuning the tv into sky and i get the picture with bad, what looks like ghosting from another sky channel and wavey bars top and bottom
the same if i tune my video into sky
at the moment when i tape sky, all i get is bad ghosty pic and sound.
been wondering if my video is at fault ?
but the not being able to tune sky into a channel on my tv would still remain.
