im after another dvd player and im not sure which of the following i should get.
should i get the :
Toshiba SD220E
or
Pioneer DV350S
iv read good reviews for both but not sure which one i should get
cheers people
Neither.
I have just received the Pioneer DV-454 Multi Region DVD Player from Superfi.co.uk
They price beat askdirect.co.uk which had it for £129 delivered (multi region though the website did not say so).
They beat it by £1, arrived earlier today, excellent service, i have heard their after sales is impressive and for £128 for a multi region 454 (silver in my case), that's one hell of a price.
Plays all disks currently throwing at it - DVDr, CD-r, VCD, MP3, gonna try some svcds soon. Optical out, it's a higher version of the DV-350 with the optical out and slightly slimmer design.:)
The 454 is just a 350 with an optical socket ( and slightly different front panel).
Not worth paying extra for !!!!........ Unless you need optical out.
Both are slimline players with the same menus, picture quality , compatibility etc. Its not a step up in quality like the models they superseded were (the 444 was better than the 340) ;)
The most you're gonna pay for the 454 over the 350 will probably be about £10 max. - not bad for the optical extra, allows you the option at least for the next couple of years to use either.:)
Each to their own though.

If it was £10 then you could probably justify it (though to be honest if you can use coax its cheaper and easier than optical).
The 350 is £114 delivered at askdirect (so £113 delvered if you can be bothered to get superfi to price match to save £1).The cheapest place you can get the 454 is £15 more.
If you go for the Tosh 220 then its £109 at empiredirect for R2. Then download the multiregion firmware to make it multiregion (alternatively pay £119+postage for the multiregion model at amazon). The Tosh has optical and coax digital outputs.
You pays your money you makes your choice :D
You are unlikely to be dissapointed with any of these players.

The 350 at askdirect is not multi region, you have to pay £10 extra for that, though the 454 is already multi region.
So it would be
£124 for the 350,
£129 for the 454,
and then £1 off each if you bought from Superfi. So £5 more is worth it IMO.
Wouldn't want to take the risk with buying a r2 Tosh and using the firmware upgrade, if there are later playability problems, you cant exactly go back to the shop to sort it out i don't think. Better to have it already MR, so you can chase up the place you bought it from if needed.
I think that Amazon with postage is about £125, so still for a couple of quid more, may be best to go with the DV-454 from superfi. I think.:)
