Toshiba SD220E problem
Question:

Seem to be having a little problem with my new Toshiba SD220E the backgroung keeps flickering especially on dark colours. Anyone else having problems?

Answers:

how do you mean flickering? If it's a ghosting problem ie as though another image is coming through from another source it might be your lead isnt shielded properly. Try disconnecting everything else from the TV or else try to plug it into a different scart socket on the TV

Answers:

I think i have read somewhere that people with Panasonic tv's have some issues with Tosh's - Is your tv made by Panasonic ?

Mickl - It's not a ghosting problem. The foreground and the brighter colours are fine, it,s hard to explain, but the background with dark colours seems to get darker and then lighten up and then darken again hence my phrase flicker.
Delh - No it's not a Panasonic TV but a Samsung.
Thanks for your input.

Actually it sounds as if it might be an issue with NTSC - Does it only happen with R1/R3 discs, or R2 as well ?
I say this cos' when i had laserdisc on a Philips tv, a similar thing happened because the Philips accepted NTSC3.58, but not NTSC4.43(?), maybe worth looking in your tv manual to see what it accepts.
Have u had a dvd player before, that was okay?, maybe that dvd player output PAL60/PAL50/QuasiPal & u wouldn't have noticed a problem
Also, is your tv RGB compatible?, worth trying to see if the dvd player is set up to tie in with the tv.

Sounds like a macrovision problem to me. Do you have your DVD plugged through a VCR at all ?

Now had time to investigate a little further.
Toshiba SD220E works fine with my dad's Panasonic.
Also works fine with my sisters Panasonic
problem seems to be with the compatibility of the dvd player and my 21" samsung tv
