Question:
I've noticed that I get smaller black bars on anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 WS NTSC dvds than PAL.
If they're both the small aspect ratio how can the size of the black bars be different ?.
The only thing I can think of is that either theres less over scan on the NTSC format, or the picture is being virtically expanded.
Either way Im baffled how dvds with identical aspect ratios can appear to be different sizes depending of whether their NTSC or Pal.
I think it's to do with the resolution differences between NTSC and PAL:-
NTSC 525 lines,PAL 625 lines.
I think the extra PAL lines are to do with improve resolution rather than a larger sized screen, plus If that was true I'd imagine the PAL transfer would be the larger image instead of NTSC.
anyone else got any ideas ?.
Well I tried having a go in the service menu and now the TV is completely shagged.
Even though I wrote down the original settings the TV doesnt store them after they're entered.
The moral of the story is don't touch the ***** service menu !.
