Question:
I have a Philips 28PW6006 and i have noticed that when in widescreen mode that it seems to clip the side of the picture. You don't tend to notice it too much when watching but if there are credits at the start and the end of a movie that are anywhere near the edge of the screen they seem to go off the edge!!
I changed modes from widescreen to others and the clipping is still present.
Has anyone else had this?? And more importantly, does anyone know if there is some way to fix it?
It's called overscan. It can usually be adjusted in the engineers menu.
How do you go about getting into the Engineers Menu?
You could try here (http://home.hccnet.nl/m.majoor/tv__matchline_service_mode.htm)
Be warned: You can very easily screw up your TV - to the point of having to call out a repairman/returning it to Philips - if you change the wrong setting. Write down every setting before you even consider changing any. If you have any doubts consider carefully the possible consequences of a cock up (ie: a broken telly) before proceeding.
I have the same problem on my Samsung 4:3 TV it doesn't have any picture settings in the menus, and when I watch widescreen DVD's on there, you get the bars top and bottom but I swear you still lose some of the picture of the sides as sometimes text comes up and its off the edge of the screen, do you know or engineer settings for Samsung TV's?
Way Hay...
managed to get into the Service Menu and Bobs your uncle, i have changed the geometry so that the entire image is in the screen.
Thanks for all your help.
Nice one

Try: With the TV powered off press: mute, 1, 8, 2, power
Again, be very careful and read the warning I gave further up this thread. Good luck.

pressing '1' turns the TV back on? am I doing this right?
By 'TV powered off' do you just mean on standby?
Thanks again for your help.
AFAIK standby. If no menu comes up following the keypresses it may be that they don't work for your particular model. Afraid I don't know any more samsung codes.
OK, well thanks for your help anyway
i've been trying to find out how to get into the service menu of my LG 28" WS TV... the picture seems to be a tiny bit too high at the top and needs to move a little bit to the left or even better be squashed in some more on both sides.... anyone got any tips on how to get into service menus?

If anyone out there knows how I can enter setup/engineer mode on this TV I would be extremely grateful.
Since I use this TV for my PS2 and only some games allow you to center the picture, its extremely annoying to have a large black border on one side and not be able to play Pro Evo 2 properly.
I remember it used to be like this when I ran an old Amiga A500 on it as well, but it seems to annoy me more these days for some reason ?.
I also have a widescreen 32PL1 (which I do know how to get into service mode) but promised myself I wouldn't use this for Videogames, only DVD's but at this rate .........
Cheers in advance for any assistance.
Hi grate info guys. Do you know where I can find similar information for my own WS set? I have tried searching in the usual search engines with out any luck. Perhaps some models are easier that others to adjust?
I have a Sony Widescreen: KV-32FX20
Thanks

This (http://www.kv32tweak.freeuk.com/) might be worth a look. Don't know if it applies to your set though.
