Question:
I've been informed by a member of staff in my local Sony shop that my DAV-S300 can be upgraded to multi regin for between £30 and £40. And it should only take 5 minutes to do.
Apparently it's a software upgrade.
Has anyone had this done to their DAV-S300 and have they had any problems with the upgrade.
The prospect of buying cheap R1 seems to be just too much for me to resist :D
AFAIK it has to be chipped. £65 at www.dvdchips.co.uk
Cheers Nujol:thumbs:
Gonna get one from there.... Rather that than a smarmy salesman I don't trust
Thanks Again:notworthy

:p :p :p Thats made me laugh:) Just goes to show what they know! Its a firmware removal jobbie on these machines, NOT a software update - involves a bit of SMT work, which obviously they don`t have (5 minutes!) - me thinks they thought you had a DVPNS300:)
As per the other thread see Steve @ dvdchips or bob me an email.
As above really,
I had my DAV-300S modified by Steve (DVDchips) and I can highly recommend his service and the mod itself.
I've not had any problem discs, although I have yet to try any RCE discs.
Go for it, it'll open up a whole new universe of DVD's
Cheers
TM
So is it possible to do the mod myself.... sorry mate couldn't work out SMT..
obviously a bit of a newbie to this :o
Look at the dvd chips site m8 there are instructions... could you handle it?!!!
To do it yourself, you need to be reasonably proficient with a soldering iron, and you would need a small tip on your iron as the contacts on the chip are quite close together (possibly).
iirc, you will have to desolder and remove an existing chip, and solder a new one in its place. The capacity for stuffing it up is immense.:)
Personally I would recommend that you get someone else to do it, unless you're a great solderer, in which case would you like a job in Swindon?

Cheers TM.... the instructions on the site didn't mention any soldering etc
I was actually considering buying a new system because mine isn't multi-region :shocker:
Cheers for all the advice.. you lot.. and the forums... rock...I am not worthy :notworthy
