Question:
As a newbie to DVD, I'd appreciate an explanation of the following terms
pan and scan
anamorphic (ratio)
dual layer
and how these factors affect the quality of the film I see on-screen
Any comments will be appreciated!
Thanks
Hi, have a look at this link for a good explanation of both pan and scan and anamorphicity;

Dual layer means that the DVD disc contains two layers on the playing side, that although invisible by all accounts to the human eye, the laser of the dvd player can 're-focus' to the second layer once the first layer is done. The re-focusing is the so called layer change pause that some players have to a lesser or greater extent. Almost all discs are now dual-layered. All DVD players can play both layers.
Thanks for the reply. The site was very informative and answered my question. It was great to see a visual explanation to my question!
Thanks again for your trouble
