If they are all trinitron ( ? )
does that mean a keen eyed observer
will be able to spot the 2 lines holding the shadow mask in place
or am i a bit out of date with my info ?

You mean the Trinitron Line? 14" tellys have one, bigger tellys have 2, not sure if the WEGA's still have them though
My kf 32fx60 has 2 and there only noticable if its a very bright (close to white) picture.
Not that noticable and never have any impact on my viewing pleasure.
