Trying to find a Component video to scart lead?
Question:

My imported Toshiba DVD player has a set of Y,R-Y,B-Y phono sockets and I was wonder where I could get hold a component to scart lead in the uk.

dont think you will find such a lead. The component out on the palyer will only be of use if the TV itself has component inputs. These will be in the form of phone sockets to. So if your TV doesn't have that then RGB is the best picture quality you are going to get. but as you say your player is imported I suspect it won't have scart sockets so you might be stuck with S-VHS

;) cheers for the reply like you say I was thinking it may only be s/vhs :(

What about them scart kits with all them connections you can get that Argos sell and video leads from www.maplin.co.uk or www.jessops.co.uk?

Answers:

it's not physically connecting the player to the TV that is the problem. his TV will not accept component signals from any source. much like an non-DTS amp won't play DTS even if you feed the bitstream into it

No it's not worth a try. There is absolutely no point making a component to SCART lead - it would be like connecting your gas cooker to the water main - any decent plumber could do it but you'd end up using your microwave more!

Unless you own a Loewe TV (which can handle sync from green on component - or something like that - I don't own one), you can only use S-Video.

It might be possible to get some kind of convertor. Other than that, there is no way of doing it. Componant and RGB are two different signal formats and are not compatible. The thread Baps is refering to is about using the componant switch through on an amp to switch RGB which will work after a fashion but only because the amp merely switches the signal, it knows nothing of the signal type.
So go to the suppliers forum and look up hardware suppliers on the sticky there and see what you can find for conversion.

My Tosh SD9000 is connected via a component to scart lead to my Loewe Aconda ;).
I have a spare lead made up by Keene which I could let you have for £20. Samuelowens is right though, only Loewe TVs can accept component through a scart input though.

Yeah, but in effect you've got a gas cooker that can burn water too... I don't think the original poster has!

Does that mean that compnant video is the same as RGB but with sync on green. If that was the case then If you connected componant and composite, it might work work. Of course, you might have to deal with thew RGB status pin which has to be held high on some TVs for RGB to work.
